After a national search, Victoria “Vicky” Chun ’91, MA’94 has been named athletics director of �Ա���Ƶ effective January 1, President Jeffrey Herbst announced today. Chun, who has served as interim athletics director since August 1, will report to Douglas Hicks, provost and dean of the faculty.

Update: Here is a chart tracing the votes in the competition over time. The final count for �Ա���Ƶ, whose progress is represented in blue, was over 11,000 votes. This was an impressive accomplishment for the �Ա���Ƶ community, as the school in second place finished with just over 4,000 votes.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a $700,000 grant to �Ա���Ƶ for use over four years, to support a new program of Mellon Sophomore Residential Seminars. For the next year, on the 13th of every month, �Ա���Ƶ community members will be celebrating the Year of ’13. Tonight, Director Francesca Zambello ’78, H’12 will mark the day in her own special way when she brings Hector Berlioz’ Les Troyens back to the Metropolitan Opera stage at 6 p.m.

On November 13, President Jeffrey Herbst took the stage at the Palace Theater to profile Nelson Mandela. Recounting the South African leader’s life and political legacy, Herbst stood next to Mandela’s portrait — one of 29 canvases in the Great Minds exhibition, sponsored by Dick Resnick ’61, P’90.

Final figures for Early Decision show applications increased 16.5% compared to last year, and members of the �Ա���Ƶ Office of Admission say the spike did not come from a single area, but across socioeconomic groups, ethnicities, and regions.
