Assistant Professor of Economics Mike Levere has recently been named a new member of the , a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization comprised of the nation’s leading experts in social insurance policy, research, and innovation.

Founded in 1986, the academy brings together leading scholars, policymakers, and practitioners working across the full spectrum of U.S. social insurance programs, including Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, Workers’ Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and income-boosting tax credits. These programs form the foundation of America’s economic safety net, protecting individuals and families against major life risks such as retirement, job loss, disability, illness, and the loss of a primary earner. For nearly four decades, the academy and its powerful, diverse member network have championed the safeguarding, strengthening, and modernization of social insurance, working to deepen public understanding of how it contributes to economic security.
