Dear Colleagues,
We write to invite you to apply for the (FSP) and/or the , offered by . The 10-week FSP offers small-group career and writing coaching, and the 4-week Teaching Toolkit supports faculty in making intentional choices about how to address AI, whether that means resisting it, selectively integrating it, or experimenting within existing policies.
In 2026-2027, the Office of the Provost and Dean of the Faculty will support two ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ faculty to participate in the FSP. The fall session runs September 14 - November 22, 2026, and the spring session runs January 25 - April 4, 2027. NCFDD strongly encourages faculty to enroll in the FSP during a teaching semester, rather than during a leave or sabbatical. At this time, only faculty at the associate professor rank are eligible to apply.
Given the significant challenges and opportunities for teaching and learning posed by AI, the PDoF Office will sponsor up to five faculty members to enroll in the summer session of the Teaching Toolkit program, which runs July 13 - August 9, 2026. Continuing faculty members at all ranks – including tenured and tenure-stream faculty, visitors, senior lecturers, and senior lab instructors – are invited to apply for this opportunity.
The deadline to apply for the FSP or the Teaching Toolkit is June 12, 2026, with decisions to be issued by June 19. Applications should be submitted to Sadie Johnson at sjohnson4@colgate.edu. In your application (no more than 2 pages, single-spaced), please include:
- A brief description of the research or scholarly project on which you would be working during the FSP, or a brief description of the questions around teaching in the age of AI that you hope to investigate through the Teaching Toolkit program;
- A description of the NCFDD resources with which you have already engaged (if any), and how you expect participating in the FSP or Teaching Toolkit would build on that experience;
- A list of courses taught and service done over the last two years;
- An explanation of why this is a good time in your career to engage in this type of intensive program to develop your writing practice (in the case of the FSP) or your teaching skills (in the case of the Teaching Toolkit).
If you have questions about the FSP/Teaching Toolkit application process, or the other resources available through NCFDD, please reach out to Christian DuComb, Associate Dean of the Faculty (cducomb@colgate.edu) or Carolyn Hsu, Associate Provost for Equity and Diversity (chsu@colgate.edu).
¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ faculty members who have participated in the FSP in recent years include Antonio Barrera, Kristin De Lucia, Ani Maitra, Andy Pattison, Vijay Ramachandran, Elana Shever, and Susan Woolley. Feedback from these colleagues about the FSP has been overwhelmingly positive, so please feel free to reach out to them with any questions you may have about their experiences in the program.
As you may be aware, every ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ faculty member has access to a wide array of resources that are available through our institutional membership with NCFDD. You can to access these resources, which include workshops on academic writing, work/life balance, and time management. Registration is ongoing for the June 2 webinar on and the June 9 webinar on .
