Karen Harpp, professor of earth and environmental geosciences at 冈本视频; Andrew Bell, senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh; Peter LaFemina, professor doctor of geophysics at the University of Bremen; and Mario Ruiz, director at Escuela Polit茅cnica Nacional, have received a Picker ISI Minor Grant award for $29,990 for their project, 鈥淯nderstanding Volcanic Island Evolution in the Gal谩pagos: A Pilot Implementation of a Small, Multi-Parametric Geophysical Network.鈥
The project will deploy a single broadband seismic and GNSS station to expand the aperture of the region鈥檚 existing geophysical network by approximately 250 km into the unmonitored eastern half of the archipelago. This pilot implementation will provide previously unobtainable constraints on the crustal stresses active across this part of the volcanic chain.
